Thermaltake Silent Purepower 420APD Active PFC power supply. Thermaltake well known for their top quality CPU heatsinks have over recent times branched out to cover a selection of other products that the discerning PC computer user needs. Developing a top quality power supply fits in well. Thermaltake kindly sent us one of their latest power supplies to try out. This version is their 420APD (Dual Fan) ATX12V Active PFC. Not only ideal for AMD Athlon XP systems but it also includes the necessary 4-pin power connector for Intel Pentium 4 motherboards. The Thermaltake Silent Purepower range consists of various watts outputs: 420AD (dual fan), 420APD (dual fan PFC), 360AD (dual fan), 360APD (dual fan PFC), 360, 360AP (passive PFC), 300A, 300AP (passive PFC). So spoilt for choice. What is Thermaltake Power Factor Correction (PFC). It is to attempt to remove and compensate for the effect of leakage inductance that is lost from the output current. Non-PFC gives around 0.5~0.6 Power Frequency while Thermaltake Active PFC give a more efficient Power Frequency of 0.95~0.99. As you can see the Thermaltake 420APD PFC complete kit which also has fitting screws included. A nice touch we think is where the main power feed cables for your motherboard are inside a loose flexible braided sheath. And there are more than enough other power leads for all your various drives and accessories inside your PC computer case. For those of us colour conscious Thermaltake have even gold plated the fixing screws and fan covers. It just finished the whole power supply off for us. You can see clearly the two fans used to cool this Thermaltake power supply. The fan speeds are automatically adjusted, speeding up if your internal air temperature rise. The fans fitted to these Thermaltake power supplys are Ball bearing for not only high reliability but super low noise.
